Nov. 4, 1937. "General Alexander Macomb house, 125 Main Street, Belleville, Essex County, New Jersey. Remarkable for being a seven-bay front. Demolished March 1940 on account of tax burden." Former abode of the Hero of Plattsburgh.






Alexander Macomb (April 3, 1782–June 25, 1841) was the Commanding General of theUnited States Army from May 29, 1828 to June 25, 1841. Macomb was the field commander at the Battle of Plattsburgh, and after the stunning victory was lauded with praise and styled "The Hero of Plattsburgh"
