Cadmus House - Washington Street

Lt. Col. Thomas Cadmus House - Washington Street and Ashland Avenue - Bloomfield
George Washington stopped here more than once but for sure on July 9, 1778, after the Battle of Monmouth (he was probably there again in November of 1780). The house, which belonged to Lt. Col. Thomas Cadmus, was originally built in 1657, although some histories show it built in 1672. Research for the sign in 1962 says 1763, when it may have been remodeled.  The house was rebuilt in 1915, using the original foundation and the original stones.

Bloomfield Sesquicentennial Committee erected a sign at the house in 1962
